Set in the rural beauty of the Cheshire countryside, we are proud to base the annual Great British Music Camp at the ideally suited Clonter Opera facilities within sight of the famous Jodrell Bank space observatory.
We invite applications from enthusiastic musicians and singers of all abilities within the age range of 11 to 17 years. Every type of music is welcomed and encouraged, from formal classical to beat-boxing and rap. Many of the highlights from these amazing musical weeks come from interesting fusions of genres and instruments.
Long-term friendships and musical groups are formed at the annual GBMCs, with young musicians returning year after year to pick up the unique vibe and musical energy.
The team of highly experienced tutors are selected for their abilities and talents, not just in musicianship, but also for their ability to create an all-inclusive environment of musical creativity and fun.
Accommodation and Catering
Both tutors and campers will be sleeping under canvas in our secure camping area next to the theatre complex. Three or four campers will share each tent; tent assignments are made prior to the camp week. Each camper must bring their own sleeping bag and pillow, as well as a tent if possible (sleeping two or more) as this will not be provided.
Meals are served in the canteen inside the theatre. The catering team are the true stars of the GBMC week, conjuring up an amazing variety of delicious dishes using locally produced fresh ingredients to keep us all well-fed and happy. Their experience of catering for large groups using the professional kitchens and equipment at Clonter Opera is unsurpassed.
Security
Security is a prime concern, with every member of staff covered by DBS checks. We employ night-time security staff to monitor the campsite and have trained first aiders to hand at all times. Please view our Safeguarding Policy here.
Mobile phones, MP3 players and tablets are NOT ALLOWED at GBMC, as they pose a major security risk. We ask for any such items not to be brought to camp. This primary rule is treated with high importance. If any camper needs to make a call home during the week, tutors will ensure provision is made. Parents will have contact numbers for camp principals should they need to make contact.
